Question answered

Watertight Worthing Roofing on video

The short answer

Watertight Worthing Roofing is a Worthing roofing contractor working for homeowners, landlords and commercial owners across the town and the places within 30 road miles. Our video is a short introduction on our YouTube channel. On this page you can see how a job runs: a survey, pictures of the faults, a written quote, the work, then a cleared site.

We made a short promotional film to introduce the business. This page puts it in context: who we are, what the work involves and what happens between your first call and a finished roof.

What the video is, and what it is not

The film is a short promotional introduction to the business, made for people who want to see who they would be dealing with before they pick up the phone. It is on our YouTube channel, which is linked from the footer of every page. It is not a substitute for a survey, and it makes no promise about any particular roof, because every roof has its own faults and its own history.

We have kept this page to what we can stand behind. Roofing is a trade where a lot of firms use big words and few specifics, so the useful thing to offer is plain explanation. Below is how a job works, in the order it happens, so you know what to expect when you ask us to look at a roof, whether it is a family home, a rented flat or a small commercial unit. Our home page is the place to start for the full list of services and the areas we cover.

Who we work for and where

We are based in Worthing and cover the town and every place within 30 road miles. That takes in Lancing, Sompting and Shoreham along the Adur, Portslade, Hove and Brighton to the east, Ferring, Angmering and Littlehampton to the west, and the Downs and Weald villages inland, out to Horsham, Chichester and Lewes.

Our customers are homeowners, landlords and commercial owners. The work includes pitched, slate and flat roofs, lead and chimney work, ridges and verges, gutters, fascias and soffits, skylights, conservatory and garage roofs, commercial roofs and emergency make-safes. The range of services is set out on our services pages, and typical prices by job are in the roofing costs guide.

From the first call to a finished roof

It starts with a conversation about what you can see: a stain, slipped tiles, a dripping gutter. We arrange a survey and look at the roof for the cause, which is often not where the stain is. Water travels, so the real fault might be a flashing, a valley, a ridge or condensation rather than the spot that shows inside.

After the visit you receive photographs taken on your roof, followed by our quote in writing, giving one price for the job. Our recommendation is sized to the fault: a repair when a repair is enough, a replacement only when it is not, with the reasons set out. Leaks and storm damage come first in our diary, and a roof letting water in is made safe before anything else. Where the work is notifiable, we also handle the Building Regulations notification with the council. Throughout, you can ask us to explain any step in plain words, and we would rather you did.

What the work looks like on site

Good roofing is mostly in the details you stop noticing once it is done. Ridges and verges are fixed mechanically to BS 5534, with mortar no longer doing the holding. Lead is dressed so that it keeps its shape in the wind. Battens and underlay are laid with care before the covering goes back. On the coast, those details decide whether a roof comes through the next gale.

The aim on the day is a tidy site and no surprises. Scaffold goes up where the job needs it, and a scaffold on the public highway needs the highway authority's licence, which the scaffold firm arranges. When the roof is finished we tidy the site and take our waste with us. To see what drives the cost of a day's labour, our page on what a roofer charges per day sets out the published ranges.

Questions you can put to us, on camera or off

Ask anything about the survey, the materials, the order of work or the paperwork. We would rather explain than leave you guessing. If you are weighing up help with the cost, our page on government grants for a new roof says what is, and is not, available. For a local read on the town, we have also put together a short guide to barber shops in Worthing.

When you are ready, ring 01903 299063, send a WhatsApp message, or fill in the enquiry form and attach a picture or two of the problem. A clear photograph of a stain, a gutter or a slipped tile helps us judge what kind of visit to arrange. That gives us enough to arrange a visit and start the process described above. Once you have our survey photographs and the quote in hand, the decision to go ahead is yours alone.

About the video and the business

Where can I watch the Watertight Worthing Roofing video?

It is on our YouTube channel, linked in the footer of every page on this site. The film is a short introduction to the business, so use it to get a feel for who we are, and use the survey and written quote to judge the work on your own roof.

Do you work on commercial roofs as well as homes?

Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords and commercial owners, including shops, units and flats with flat roofs. Commercial jobs follow the same sequence: a survey, pictures of the roof, a written quote, the work itself and a cleared site at the end of it.
